Rolled out of bed this morning knowing that I am now in the countdown to when I’ll be grumbling about how early it is when I am rolling out of bed! And it was a good thing… I am very much looking forward to getting back to work — despite the fact that it will take time to re-adjust to the early morning and evening workouts bookending a busy workday.
For the time being, I’ll continue to enjoy my “time off” — even as it approaches the busy holiday week next week.
After a quick breakfast, I sorted out the signature papers for the offer — and made sure I emailed them into the folks at Prinova. With those delivered, I was off on a seriously packed social day!
First stop was a friends house in Ayr for coffee. We chatted about my new opportunity and life at RIM. How many things have changed, and many more have not. How many of the personalities have left the organization, and which ones are left to keep things going. From the sounds of it, the bad press RIM is getting these days is generally unwarranted. And, after spending nearly 10 years working for the organization, I still wish it well.
From Ayr it was off to Waterloo for lunch with another old friend. Much of the same conversation was had – over a glorious (and no doubt calorie dense!) Bourbon Chicken lunch! I suppose the green beans were at least somewhat healthy! But the ride and the chicken most certainly were not! They were tasty though!
From lunch #1, I was off to one of the local “watering holes” to lunch #2. I did not, in fact, eat two lunches… but having had two invites that didn;t happen to overlap, I was perfectly happy to sit with friends over the second lunch to catch up on old times! In this case, there were four of us… myself, a couple of current RIM folks, and an e-colleague who’s in town from the UK. We had an absolute blast catching up on all the shenanigans that had transpired in what seemed like years since we’d last all seen one another!
Having eaten my fill at lunch #1, and a small bowl of soup at lunch #2, I figured a run at the gym would be a good idea! So, I headed over to the beautiful Goodlife in Waterloo (wayyyy better than the Guelph facility!) and ran for an our on the treadmill.
As I was getting changed – intending to come home, I noticed an email from yet another old colleague asking whether I had time to grab a drink…. So back across the road to the same watering hole I went — for a quick drink and yet another round of conversation about new roles, life opportunities, etc.!
By this time it was pretty much dinner time… so I hopped in the car, made my way home to Guelph, scarfed down a quick dinner (slightly more healthy perhaps than the Bourbon Chicken for lunch (?) … To make up for all the unhealthy food, I hopped on the bike for an hour spin — enjoying the entertainment offered by Season 2 of Deadwood! I love HBO programming!
And now, as it turns to midnight, I need to climb into bed. Looking forward to the last day of school for this year tomorrow… and all the minor festivities that will happen at the school as a result! Goodnight!
