Catching up on a few stories…. And one that needs to be told is the (mis)adventure I had last week with my motorcycle! (for those that are now holding their breath wondering if I have crashed… you can breathe a sigh of relief…. nothing like that happened!)
Last week I needed to head into Toronto and stay late for a charity evening — money being raised for the Tour De Kids, playing a movie about RAAM (Race Across America … look it up! I want to do that one day!) I’d had a late night in the city the night with work, so I’d taken the early part of the morning at home and then went down to grab the bike to head into the city around 9:00 hoping to avoid the worst of the traffic (erroneously assuming the rush hour actually ends!)
When I went to start the bike, it didn’t catch. I hadn’t driven it in a few weeks, so figured the battery might have drained down some and was prepping to jump it with my car when I decided to “give it one more try”. It started. Thinking nothing more, I drove into the city.
At the end of the day, when I went to go start my bike to head out to the charity event – well… it didn’t start again. And to make a long story short, it was left parked overnight as somehow I had melted the positive lead on the battery and fused the lock washer into the negative lead. A new battery was required to get the machine going again. and the battery that was destroyed was pretty much brand new!
So … now I am nervous about the bike every time I ride it. I am regularly checking the new, new battery to see whether there is any visible sign that the leads are overheating. And worry whenever I park it that it might not start again. Going to have to take it into the shop to have them give it a good “once over”…
