Seems somewhat fitting that after my post all about food this morning, the folks at Ironman have finally announced the final detail about race day nutrition for Ironman Mont Tremblant and Ironman 70.3 Mont Tremblant.
The drink partner is the Ironman-branded / Powerbar-manufactured “Perform” energy drink. I’ve never used the stuff. Never tasted it. Never even seen it on shelves. But, I’ll start as soon as I pick some up (as early as later this week)… as I do know where I can find it. Frankly, I’m pretty sure as far as energy drinks go, it can be no better or worse than most. And it will be as simple as taking it on rides with me to ensure I can “stomach it” under the appropriate and similar circumstances to race day. (a luxury I did not have for the Leadman Triathlon — which made me a little less confident about taking the on-course nutrition and probably contributed to my lack of energy in the latter part of the ride and run.)
While the drink partner has been known for some weeks, announced today was the energy bar / gel sponsor for the event — Honey Stingers. Available on course will be a mixture of the waffles, chews and gels… again, products I have limited to no experience with. But something I will begin to train with shortly. I think these are more readily available — including at my local running shops… I’ll have to take a look around and see what I can find. Hey, if nothing else, who wouldn’t want to carry a “waffle” with them to munch on wile riding or running!
I have used Honey Stingers waffles and love them!!
Never tried their chews or gels though so make sure to review them once you do.
I cannot stomach the “GUs” and usually use Hammer Gel but if only for variety (I like options), I would like to know how they are. Of course, every body {stomach} is different and reacts differently but still would be a good thing to read about your experience with the product.
