Childrens’ Ironman Challenge

I have been working on the Children’s Ironman Challenge concept and materials for a few weeks now. And, while I am still not quite ready to post everything, I thought it would be a good idea to at least get a quick update on what I am working on.

The basic concept is simple.  I would like to encourage a fun-filled active lifestyle for kids of all ages.  And as such, I am in the process of designing an age-appropriate program for kids to “complete an Ironman”.  In each of the age brackets between 7 and 17, I will outline a loose schedule to go the full 226kms of an Ironman over the course of weeks or months.  The schedule(s) aren’t training plans… just a way for parents, coaches, teachers or guardians can help their kids challenge themselves to swim, bike and run the full Ironman distance – to prove to themselves they can do anything! and have fun in the process.

I hope to hear from individuals who choose to use the program to get their kids active — whether as a parent or in a classroom or other group setting.  So that I can share those stories with the rest of the community that is following my Ironman training progress.

And I hope that in some cases, those active kids will go to their friends, relatives and neighbours for sponsorships… raising much needed funds for whatever their charity of choice, or the one’s I have chosen to support. More resources for this will be made available.

Everything will be posted soon!  I promise.
