As part of my Project IronReady I set out to raise funds for a worthy cause. I have one major partner in both Canada and the US to whom I can channel contributions from my own fundraising efforts. Having partners on each side of the border will ensure that no matter where you live you will be able to contribute AND receive your charitable tax receipts for that contribution.
I hope to raise $22,600 in each country. This works out to $100 for every kilometre I will be swimming, biking and running on the day of my race in August 2012. My fundraising goals are ambitious, but I believe attainable. And should the Children’s Ironman Challenge pick up steam (once the resources are complete and loaded onto the site) – something I may need to revisit and move upwards! I will occassionally report on the progress I am making with respect to achieving this fundraising goal.
I am happy to announce and link to my fundraising “partners”:
I am officially a “Proud Supporter” of the Canadian Cancer Society. I spoke a couple times to the friendly folks at the CCS about my project and my goals, and they were of great assistance in setting up an “event page” on their website through which contributions can be made and tracked.
When I set up the event space on the CCS website, I created it as a “team” event. So, those folks that simply want to contribute funds, can do so. But those who choose to be more ambitious could choose to join my team and be ambassadors for the effort — raising fund towards a shared goal, but doing so in their own names. I hope some of my triathlete friends from around the southwest Ontario — perhaps even those who are racing in Mont Tremblant with me, may join me in my efforts. Only time will tell.
In the US, I am aligned with the American Cancer Society (ACS). Similar to Canada, I have set up a fundraising event page on their website, through which onine donations can be made. I am still working with the ACS in order to get the system set up as a team (vs individual) event. Once this has been done, I am hoping friends and fellow athletes in the US will join me in raising funds. For the time being, any and all of you canmake donations in conncetion with my efforts that will help me to achieve my fundraising target!
Thank you all for being supportive of my goal to raise funds towards such a needy cause as the fight to find a cure for cancer, and to support those who are already impacted by this dreadful disease.
